Winter League qualifying concluded yesterday (Sunday 19th) with the final 16 qualifiers decided. On a brisk day for golf a number of people catapulted themselves into the qualifying positions for the next stage of the winter league. The 16 qualifers were drawn into pairs today and will proceed for the next 3 Sundays in a new format as follows:

Ollie Munnelly Jnr & Jimmy Monagahn
Kieran O’ Connor & Hughie Carey
Martin Cosgrove & John Hanley
Thomas Gruddy & David Hurst
Vincent Fahy & Brendan Reilly
Tommy Organ & Peadar Mulry
Declan Healy & Vincent Keane
John Lennon & Coilin Faherty

First reserve: Seán O Coisdealbha.

Week 1 (26th Jan): 18 Hole Stableford Scotch Foursomes (alternate shots after the two teeshots)

Week 2 (2nd Feb):18 Hole Scramble

Week 3 (9th Feb): Fourball Betterball

The pairing with the most aggregate stableford points after the above 3 weeks will be deemed the winners of the 2019/20 Winter League.

There will be a club competition for those not involved in the Winter league for the above three Sundays.

Good luck to all!

Winter League qualifying concludes this Sunday with places in the top 16 still very much to play for.

A number of players have already secured their place for the final three Sundays  but the battle will be on for the remaining places.

Currently one player on 105 points is in the Top 16 but with a good scoring day forecast for Sunday it's likely that figure will increase by 3 to 5 points.

In the event of a tie for 16th the best fourth card will count and if the fourth cards are the same ,the best fourth cards is decided on the best last 9, last 6, last 3 etc.

Once the Top 16 are finalised an open draw will take place to determine pairings who will then contest the following three Sundays in three different formats.....

first Sunday will be an 18 Hole Stableford  Scotch Foursomes (alternate shots after the two teeshots) , the second Sunday an 18 Hole Stableford Scramble and finishing up with an 18 Hole Stableford  Fourball Betterball.

For the first two Sundays the pairs handicap will be half of their combined handicaps and half points will apply when the combined is an odd number.

For the Fourball Betterball Sunday,as each player is playing their own ball each player will play off 9/10 of their own handicap rounded to the nearest whole number as is normal.

The pairing with the most aggregate stableford points will be deemed the winner. In the unlikely event of a tie, the better third day will be deemed the winner, better back 9 on the third day etc...

The Winter League commences this Sunday November 24th.

The League is contested for the Willie Healy Memorial Cup and is kindly sponsored by the Healy family.

It will consist of 6 singles stableford competitions with your best three scores to count.

Entry is €35 for the six Sundays.

For those unable or not wishing to commit to the League anyone can play for a daily prize of a turkey voucher on a given Sunday for the entry fee of €7.

After the Top 16 have been determined following the six qualifying Sundays there will be an Open draw for partners.

The eight pairings will then play on the following three Sundays, firstly in a two ball scramble stableford, then in a foursomes stableford and finally in a fourball betterball stableford.

This format will result in possibly all eight pairings having a chance of victory on a dramatic last day.
